Overview

This class is certified at the Entry or Operator I level and employees may have limited knowledge of plant operations. This is an in-training position and requires supervision on tasks related to compliance reporting and analysis. Advancement to the Plant Operator II level is based on meeting minimum qualifications and satisfactory job performance.

Responsibilities

  • Update of operations logs.
  • Adding and mixing of treatment chemicals under the supervision of higher-level operators.
  • Operate and monitor water or wastewater treatment plant equipment.
  • Maintain pertinent records and compile data into written reports.
  • Perform routine to difficult maintenance, repairs, and installations to plant equipment such as pumps, valves, and electronic monitoring devices.
  • Perform heavy manual labor.
  • Schedule maintenance and repair of water or wastewater treatment plants.
  • Operate office equipment including computers and supporting software applications.
  • Adapt to changing technologies and learn functionality of new equipment and systems.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Class D Water / Wastewater license.
  • Have the ability to descend and climb a maximum of 30 rungs to access system pump stations.

  • Have the ability to lift 50 pounds.

  • Have adequate respiratory function to utilize a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus.

  • Have the ability to detect and differentiate colors.
